United Way opened our community's only emergency homeless shelter on March 1st, 2018, and is now looking for community volunteers to help sponsor an evening meal.
Serving begins at 6:30 p.m. If you need additional time to set up, prior to serving, we will have staff available to let you into the building at 6:00 p.m.
United Way will provide all paper products including: plates, bowls, plastic silverware, napkins, extension cords, serving tables, platters, large serving bowls, serving utensils, etc. We have a refrigerator, deep freeze, and oven if you should need to utilize those to store, heat up or donate leftovers.
The meal and items will need to be pre-purchased and prepped outside of the shelter. Meals can be as simple or as complex as you desire – for every item served, plan to have a volunteer in that place. Meals can consist of a main dish, side(s) dish, dessert, and beverage.
Please plan to provide food for upwards of 60-75+ people. We have this meal open to clients, residents and those in need.
The shelter is located at 114 N 3rd St, Bismarck. You may park directly outside of the shelter, where you will be greeted by a large, green canopy that says "Sunrise". If street parking is not available, please use the "Brady Martz" parking lot, directly south of the shelter.
This is a family-friendly volunteer opportunity – children, spouses and friends are welcome! If you choose to have children accompany you, please make sure they are with an adult at all times. If any volunteers are under the age of 18, we will provide a waiver form for them to sign along with their chaperone.
